Document-based beauty research; OLAPLEX US English storefront mask comparison, checked 25 October 2026. No hands-on test.
| Research field | Product-specific distinction |
|---|---|
| Rich Hydration Mask | Manufacturer group: medium, thick and coarse hair. |
| Weightless Nourishing Mask | Manufacturer group: fine and medium hair. |
| Medium-hair decision | Both groups include medium; compare the stated goals rather than inventing an exclusive type rule. |
The selector has an overlap
OLAPLEX’s mask comparison lists Rich Hydration Mask for medium, thick and coarse hair. It lists Weightless Nourishing Mask for fine and medium hair. Medium therefore appears in both groups. A review that assigns every medium-haired shopper exclusively to one of the two products would be adding a rule the displayed selector does not contain. The page can help narrow a research question, but it does not provide a mutually exclusive classification for every buyer.
Read the goals alongside the type wording
The comparison associates Rich Hydration Mask with goals including smoothness and frizz control, while Weightless Nourishing Mask includes shape retention and integrity. Some other listed goals overlap. These are manufacturer positioning categories, not measured observations by this publication. A useful product table keeps the hair-type wording and the stated goals in separate columns so a reader can see why the selection question has more than one dimension.
This distinction matters for a person whose hair is described as medium but whose research priorities differ from another person’s. The page does not establish that every medium-haired person has the same desired finish. Nor does it provide this publication with an objective measurement of the reader’s hair. A category word should therefore begin a comparison rather than settle which formula will perform better for that person.
Replacing an older mask needs a separate record
A selection chart describes the current products and their targeting. It does not by itself establish that either formula is identical to an older mask. A successor or unchanged-formula claim would need a direct manufacturer statement or a version-specific comparison; this guide has not established that relationship.
If a buyer is trying to replace a particular older mask, retain its exact label and ingredient panel as a separate record. Compare those with the named current candidate rather than assume continuity from the redirect. A replacement comparison needs that older package and the exact proposed replacement. The live webpage’s selection categories cannot substitute for a formula history.
A useful result without a performance winner
The document supports a practical caution: medium hair is within both manufacturer groups, so the groups alone cannot decide the choice. A subsequent review could inspect each product’s current directions, formula and packaging before considering an appropriate comparison. We have not tested softness, volume, hydration or durability and do not adopt the page’s numerical performance claims. There is no experience rating or universal winner here. The source-based finding preserves the overlap and the different stated goals while leaving individual suitability and historical product equivalence unresolved. That is more informative than a simplified selector which quietly removes medium hair from one of the two lists.
Sources and evidence limits
- OLAPLEX Hair Masks comparison — Current comparison page read 2026-10-25. Focus: Explain the overlapping medium-hair targeting without inventing a mutually exclusive type selector or superior outcome.
Manufacturer targeting only, not a measured recommendation. Formula, package, routine and personal suitability need separate verification; selection grouping is not formula-history proof.
